Coastal Collaborative Care provides Family-Based Treatment (FBT) in Virginia and other states throughout the country.

Compassionate, evidence-based support for adolescents and their families

At Coastal Collaborative Care, we offer a modified version of Family-Based Treatment (FBT), also known as the Maudsley Method, an evidence-based approach considered the gold standard for treating adolescents with eating disorders.

What Is Family-Based Treatment?

FBT empowers parents to take an active role in their child’s recovery by managing meals, challenging eating disorder behaviors, and restoring physical health at home – all with professional support.

Traditional FBT focuses on full family involvement without individual therapy for the adolescent or a registered dietitian.

Our Modified FBT Approach

We meet families where they are. Our therapists tailor FBT to your unique needs, combining parent coaching with individual support for your teen. We also recommend including a registered dietitian who specializes in eating disorders as part of your child’s treatment team, and we collaborate closely with them to support your child’s nutritional needs.

This integrative, evidence-based approach provides structure through the FBT model while honoring the realities of each family system.

Why Choose Modified FBT with Coastal Collaborative Care?
