Understanding the Cost of Therapy: Out-of-Network Benefits, Insurance Reimbursement, and Payment Options
At Coastal Collaborative Care, we operate as an out-of-network therapy practice, which means we don’t work directly with insurance companies. We choose this model intentionally so we can offer the most thoughtful, individualized care possible—without session limits, treatment restrictions, or the pressures of managed care. This allows us to dedicate the time and attention your healing truly deserves, both in and outside of session.
Even though we don’t accept insurance, many clients use their out-of-network mental health benefits. We provide monthly superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, and we offer sliding-scale options on a case-by-case basis to support accessibility.
To make things easier, we partner with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients check their out-of-network benefits and submit superbills for reimbursement. During your free consultation call, our team can review your benefits so you know what your coverage may look like before starting therapy.

If you’re new to out-of-network (OON) therapy or unsure how it works, we encourage you to read our blog post that breaks down everything—how OON benefits work, what to ask your insurance company, and what your options are if you don’t have OON coverage.
Please note: Our therapist, Jennifer Forbes, is a TRICARE non-participating certified provider, meaning she is approved by TRICARE but does not bill TRICARE directly. Clients pay upfront and may submit claims to TRICARE for potential reimbursement.
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a health care item or service at least 10 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider or facility than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate and the bill.
